Sheet Metal Forming
Sheet metal forming describes the forming of thin sheets of metal by applying pressure through male or female dies or both. Parts formed of sheet metal have such varied parameters that it is sometimes complicated to categorize them. Sheet metal forming is accomplished basically by processes such as roll forming, deep drawing, stretching, flanging, embossing, and spinning. In nearly all of these procedures there are not any planned major changes in the thickness of the sheet metal.
Stretch metal forming
Stretch metal forming is a process whereby the sheet metal is held tightly between clamps and stretched over a forming block.
Bending
One of the most common processes in sheet metal forming is known as bending. In addition to being bent along a straight line, the sheet metal is also bent along a curved path. Unique to this instance is the fact that in addition to male and female dies used in most bending operations, the female die can be replaced by a rubber pad.
